Something a little different from me today….
Most of what I share here grows out of the ongoing, sometimes messy work of healing from CPTSD. But all of it, in some way, traces back to a larger story I’ve been trying to tell.
Panhandler Books interviewed me about my memoir I’m working on and ran an excerpt along with an interview. I thought some of you might want to read the origin story behind much of what I write here on Substack.
Here’s the link: A Memoir Excert and Interview with Charlotte Pence
I’d love to know what lands for you, what questions it raises, or what it stirs up. Drop a note in the comments!

This interview & excerpt are tremendous, Charlotte. I so appreciate you unpacking for us the delicate (hardwon, i'm sure!) balance you've struck between narration & reflection, the child consciousness (that gloriously particular, break-your-heart specificity) & the adult looking back.
And the grace, the motiving impulse, your story as unexceptional, as one of many, that we may not be the adults cutting in line, rendering the child--children-- struggling invisible.
I'm so thankful for this work & excited for this book in the world.
